Feriae Romanae

Latin III student Simek S.'s poetic and photographic representations of Roman Holiday, Veneralia:

Roman women bathe and remove gems
From the statue of Fortuna Virilis.
Women disrobe to remove their long hems.
Wreaths of myrtle crowning their heads is
Tradition for celebrating Venus.
Beautiful flowers grace the public baths.
Women, all of separate enoses,
Honor their chosen love and life paths.
Venus was honored by wealthy women.
Fortuna Virilis, more by the poor.
But, no matter the state of their linen,
Every class honored this day of grandeur.
April first, the day of celebration,
Marks grace in women across the nation.
